Though not so common, Tollywood industry bears its fair share of Biopics. Many biographical films like Alluri Seetharama Raju, Mayuri, Ashwini, etc. were created in Telugu. Falling under this category is the latest film about Savitri’s life named Mahanati. Mahanati is being directed by Nag Ashwin reputed for the film Yevade Subramanyam.
Mahanati is a biographical film made on the legendary South Indian actress Savitri. The film enrolled rather a high end cast with Keerthy Suresh, Dulquer Salmaan, Samantha Akkineni, Vijay Devarakonda, Anushka Shetty, Mohan Babu, Rajendra Prasad, Naga Chaitanya, Shalini Pandey, and Prakash Raj. Being a prestigious project Nag Kiran is trying his best to create a perfect film.
One of the highlights of the film and also the most challenging task apart from the script is the costume designing for the characters. Indrakshi Pattanaik, a renowned stylist who had previously worked with Chiranjeevi’s daughter in styling Chiranjeevi in Khaidi No.1, had been roped in, to design along with designers Gaurang Shah and Archana Rao.
Indrakshi, in several interviews, stated that the project has been challenging since not much of the South fashion has been documented from that time. To recreate the designs for the stars and also the common populace that surrounded them, the crew had been doing extensive research by visiting journalists, actors, and many related personnel of the time.
After plenty of speculations on who plays the role of Savitri, the role finally went to Keerthy Suresh. Dulquer Salman plays the role of Gemini Ganeshan, Savitri’s Husband. Samantha plays the role of a journalist, another leading character of the film and starring opposite to her will be Vijay Devarakonda. Mickey J Meyer was roped in to compose the music for the film. The movie is being produced simultaneously in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam languages and is slated to release on 9th of May, 2018.
