One of the most popular actress in India who had earned the name of Hindi Cinema’s first “Female Superstar”, Sridevi holds a fanbase in every one of the top Film Industries in India. Started her career in the Tamil industry at an early age of four, Sridevi acted in over three hundred films in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. She was married to Boney Kapoor and was the mother of two daughters Jahnvi and Khushi. The actress died on 24th February 2018 while attending a family marriage in Dubai.
Though began her career in Tamil industry, the actress instantly captured the attention of Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi industries. She won her first award Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist in 1971. She then went on to make back to back films in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. Sridevi had worked with most of the veteran actors in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi Film industries namely Sivaji Ganesan, Jayalalitha, Kamal Hassan, Rajinikanth, NT Ramarao, A Nageswara Rao, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Jeetendra, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor etc.
The actress gained fame in the 70s-80s with her South Indian films like Moondru Mudichu, 16 Vayathinile, which was remade into Telugu as Padaharella Vayasu, Sigappu Rojakkal, Aakali Rajyam, Bobbili Puli, Meendum Kokila, Moondram Pirai, and a number of other films in Telugu and Tamil.
Described as one of the most iconic characters in the 80s, Sridevi’s popularity overshadowed many of the top Actors and Actresses of Bollywood. Her histrionic abilities in some of the blockbusters like Himmatwala, Sadma, Nagina, Mr. India, Chaalbaaz, Chandni, Lamhe etc., established her as the No.1 in Bollywood.
The actress reentered Bollywood after a certain gap after her marriage with the film English Vinglish directed by Gauri Shinde in 2012. Sridevi was one of the few actresses that had a successful reentry into the Bollywood after a considerable gap due to marriage and kids. The actress was hugely applauded for her performance in the film and was nominated for several awards including the Filmfare. Her 300th film, Mom which portrayed her as a mother, though failed to perform at the box office, earned her another set of nominations in Filmfare.
